Rideau Canal Skateway and Winterlude

Well, something good had to come from all the cold weather we have been experiencing. The Rideau Canal Skateway is finally open (partially) for its 46th season. You may think people in Ottawa are a little crazy, but skating on the canal is a big deal here – locals and visitors from all over the world look forward to it.

The opening of the Rideau Canal Skateway is also great news for our Winterlude festival which begins on Friday, January 29th and is celebrated until February 15th. The canal is a big part of the fun.

So join us in our celebration of winter. Pack your warm clothes, find those skates you’ve put away and come and enjoy the fun. If you drive to Ottawa just leave your car parked in our lot. You can walk to the skateway and most of the Winterlude sites. There is even a free shuttle bus during the festival on the weekends and on Family Day that you can hop on. Stay in our cozy bed and breakfast and start you day off right with one of our fabulous breakfasts. Spend a great day skating and enjoying the Winterlude events and when you return to Albert House Inn, you can put your feet up by our fire, relax and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. It doesn’t get much better than that!
